Patients who seek voluminous, smooth skin often choose Juvéderm® injections administered by Dr. Joshua Korman.

Juvederm Mountain ViewThis advanced dermal filler promotes the production of hyaluronic acid, which increases collagen production and improves the skin’s elasticity. Juvéderm is a gel injection, so it creates a more natural appearance than other injectables.

Juvéderm is commonly recommended to those who suffer from fine lines or wrinkles surrounding their mouth and up to their nose; however, it can benefit the entire face. Dr. Korman’s patients especially love this injectable because results can be seen for nine months to even two years for some formulations, and even longer if the patient undergoes a follow-up treatment shortly after the initial injection. At our Mountain View, San Jose, and Carmel offices, Juvéderm is a popular injectable because of the long-lasting, immediate results of smooth, full skin.

What is Juvéderm?

Juvederm San joseJuvéderm is an injectable dermal filler that works to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles that age the face. It achieves this by using hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring matter already present in the skin.

Hyaluronic acid can hold multiple times its weight in water and helps keep the skin hydrated and face looking fresh. But with age, the amount of hyaluronic acid in our bodies begins to naturally diminish. This leads to an increased appearance of folds and creases and a loss of volume in the cheeks and lips.

Juvéderm dermal fillers reinject hyaluronic acid back into the skin to moisturize, add nutrients, and naturally fill out lines and hollowed out features.

In some Juvéderm products, such as Juvéderm Ultra and Juvéderm Volbella, the formula works to add volume to the lips, whether due to a loss of volume or naturally thin lips. Juvéderm Voluma is wonderful for adding youthful volume to the cheeks, and Juvéderm XC is a great counter for deep creases like nasolabial folds.

Although Juvéderm will be absorbed back into the skin over time, the long-lasting formula will maintain results for six months to two years depending on the solution.

Types of Juvéderm

There are 4 types of Juvéderm that successfully treat different areas and concerns:

  • Juvéderm Voluma: Juvéderm Voluma can help restore youthful volume and contour to the cheeks.
  • Juvéderm XC: Juvéderm XC is a great for smoothing out the nasolabial folds (folds extending from the base of the nose to the corners of the mouth) and marionette lines (parentheses-like lines on either side of the mouth.)
  • Juvéderm Ultra: Vertical lip lines (vertical lines extending from the top and bottom of the mouth) can be diminished with Juvéderm Ultra, as well as nicely contour the lips.
  • Juvéderm Volbella: Juvéderm Volbella can add volume and dimension to lips, also treating wrinkles and creases around the lips.

In some cases, Juvéderm can be used to decrease the appearance of lines around the eyes and to fill in uneven contour due to acne or scarring.

Benefits of Juvéderm

Juvéderm is an attractive anti-aging procedure for patients who do not wish to undergo an invasive surgery, such as a facelift, or commit to a permanent procedure. Juvéderm is not only non-invasive and non-surgical, but it also requires almost no downtime or recovery. This makes it perfect for patients with busy schedules who can’t afford to take time off from work or their daily responsibilities.

Another benefit of Juvéderm is how natural the results appear. Although the face will look noticeably younger, it won’t be obvious that work has been done. The results are subtle, yet transformative and will keep people guessing as to what has changed.

Juvéderm vs. Other Dermal Fillers

Like Juvéderm, we offer a variety of dermal filler options at all four of our locations. All dermal fillers require little to no downtime and are non-invasive. In order to choose the best dermal filler for an individual patient’s needs, please make an appointment for a consultation.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Juvéderm is a hyaluronic acid filler, similar to another hyaluronic acid filler that we offer, Restylane. Both are leading dermal filler brands.

One of the benefits of hyaluronic fillers like Juvéderm and Restylane is that, since they both utilize materials naturally found in the body, there is a much smaller chance that the body will react adversely to the products. The consistency of Restylane is thicker than Juvéderm, which can make it more suitable for deep creases around the nose and mouth, like the nasolabial folds. On the other hand, some people believe that the smooth consistency of the gel used in Juvéderm gives it a more natural appeal, when compared to the granular consistency of Restylane. Juvéderm also has a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid, which means that the results will last longer.

Bellafill

Bellafill, also known as ArteFill, is a synthetic filler that works to erase smile lines, wrinkles, and can fill in scars. One of the main benefits of Artefill is that it is considered a more permanent filler, realistically lasting about five years. Bellafill lasts so long because it is not absorbed into the body, like Juvéderm. However, allergy testing is required prior to getting an Bellafill injection. Results from Bellafill begin to appear in about one week.

Radiesse

Similar to Juvéderm, but unlike Bellafill, Radiesse uses a naturally occurring substance already found in the body. In the case of Radiesse, this substance is called calcium hydroxyapatite and it is found in the bones. It is a relatively heavy material that leads to long lasting results of up to two years. It is successful at treating fine lines, wrinkles, and in particular, deep folds and creases.

Juvéderm vs. Botox and Dysport

Although Juvéderm, Botox, and Dysport are all anti-aging injectables, they function in very different ways.

Botox and Dysport both use botulinum toxin to paralyze the connection between nerves and muscles. This not only minimizes the appearance of wrinkles and folds, but it also can prevent new or deeper lines from forming.

However, since Botox and Dysport depend on the movement of facial muscles, they tend to have little to no effect on the appearance of lines that appear when the face is at rest. In some cases, the best treatment option may include a combination of both a filler and Botox or Dysport injections. Botox and Dysport injections last about three to four months and will require upkeep in order to maintain results.

Ideal Candidates

Good candidates for Juvéderm are over the age of 21 and are concerned with the appearance of wrinkles and creases on the face, or a lack of volume in the cheeks or lips. It is important that prospective candidates have ideal elasticity remaining in their skin in order to achieve optimum results. Juvéderm may not be a viable option for patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients should also have realistic expectations from the treatment. Juvéderm is a temporary solution for a more youthful appearance (unless routine injections are received in which case results can last.) It will not offer the same dramatic results as that of a facelift. In order to see if Juvéderm is the right treatment for you, please feel free to contact us and we will be more than happy to schedule your consultation appointment.

Consultation

Prior to receiving any Juvéderm treatments, we require all new patients to come in for a consultation.

During the consultation, Dr. Korman will get a sense of the patient’s aesthetic goals and conduct an examination to determine whether or not Juvéderm would help achieve these goals. If the patient is a good candidate for Juvéderm,

Dr. Korman will create a personalized treatment plan and schedule a time for Juvéderm treatment. Please feel free to ask about any complementary procedures to enhance one’s appearance.

Please inquire when scheduling your consultation if you are interested in receiving injections the same day. We will do our best to accommodate.

Injection Process

A Juvéderm treatment session typically takes about 30 minutes to complete. Although Juvéderm solutions already have lidocaine to minimize discomfort, some patients may elect to also receive a topical anesthetic, which is available upon request. The smooth gel will be injected into the desired facial points with a small, thin needle. Compared to other injectables, Juvéderm injections are considered one of the most comfortable since it has such a smooth consistency that requires less pressure.

Recovery & Results

After receiving Juvéderm, patients are free to return to their normal routine. There may be slight redness around the injection sites but that can be covered up with makeup. In general, try and avoid strenuous activity, excessive sun exposure, anti-inflammatory medications, and alcohol, including alcohol in face wipes or cleansers, for the first 24 hours after treatment.

The results of a Juvéderm treatment will begin to show immediately and improve in the following days. Depending on which Juvéderm product is used, the results will last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. In order to maintain results, another treatment will be necessary within this time. However, subsequent treatments will require less of the product since the injectable also works to stimulate the body’s natural production of hyaluronic acid.

Cost

The cost of Juvéderm will depend on a number of factors, including the results desired and amount of product required. Dr. Korman will be happy to a provide a personalized price estimate at the time of the consultation. Keep in mind that Juvéderm is not a permanent anti-aging solution and will require upkeep approximately once to twice a year.

For patients looking to rejuvenate their skin by erasing fine lines and wrinkles and restoring volume, consider Juvederm® injections to achieve these cosmetic goal. Contact our Mountain View, San Jose, or Carmel facility to request a Juvéderm consultation with Dr. Korman.
