:: Breast Augmentation ::

An ever-popular operation for women of many ages, breast augmentation takes approximately 1 1/2 hours. Dr. Korman has offices on the San Francisco Peninsula and in Monterey. Many patients come from San Francisco, San Jose, Palo Alto and throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

If you’re thinking about having breast augmentation (breast enlargement)…

Many women think about having larger breasts sometime in their lives. The decision to have breast augmentation is easy for some women, but many women contemplate the decision for a long time. It is very important to understand as much as possible about the procedure. Dr. Korman can answer all of your questions regarding the procedure during a consultation. Below are some commonly asked questions.

What size?

Size is a very personal decision. In breast augmentation implants are sized by volume, not cup size. For example, a breast implant may be 300cc , not a “C” cup. 300cc may result in a “C” cup for someone, or it might be a “B” or “D” cup for someone else. It really depends on the size of the breast to start. Also, when you purchase a bra, remember that a 34B bra is the same size as a 32C and the same as a 36A (that is how the bra companies make them). During a consultation, Dr. Korman will assist you in choosing the right size implant for you.

Above or Below the muscle...

While this is also a personal decision, there are several other contributing factors to this decision. These include thickness of skin, height of implants, amount of exiting breast tissue, pectoral muscle development . During a consultation for breast augmentation, Dr. Korman will be able to help you make an informed decision regarding the position of the implant relative to the muscle.

Incision site

Dr. Korman performs breast augmentation thorough several incisions. These include periareloar around the lower half of the areola ( the pigmented area around the nipple), transaxillary (through the armpit), and inframammary (under the breast). He also uses the endoscope when indicated.

Saline or Silicone Gel
Women can now choose either Silicone or Saline breast augmentation! Dr. Korman can help you to decide which is right for you.

The procedure

Breast augmentation takes approximately one hour. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. It is an outpatient procedure performed at Hospital Driver Surgery Center, our fully accredited surgical facility located adjacent to our offices. Sutures are removed at one week following the surgery.

Do I need a breast lift too?

The need for a breast lift in addition to breast enlargement ( augmentation) really depends on how much natural sagging exists. This usually occurs as a result of pregnancy, breast feeding, or significant weight loss. Dr. Korman can give you a much better idea which procedure you need when he sees you in consultation. Remember, cosmetic consultations are complimentary.
