Over time, you will notice an increase in wrinkles, sunken cheekbones, and loss of elasticity in your facial skin. The toll that gravity, sun, and genetics take on your skin can be extensive, leading to facial aging, a growing concern for men as well as women. However, with a facelift or Necklift, Dr. Korman has the ability to reverse these signs.

Our skin loses structure and becomes thin with time, which promotes the development of wrinkles, lines, folds, creases, and sagginess. These factors cause our faces to lose the lifted, taut aesthetic of our youth. Facelifts smooth these wrinkles and reduce droopy skin for long-term rejuvenation of your facial appearance.

Facelifts are a dramatic anti-aging procedure that can take many years off your appearance as it lifts and revives the face. If you are interested in discussing your options for this procedure, contact Dr. Korman to address your candidacy and any questions or concerns you may have.

What is a Facelift?

It is a comprehensive procedure that improves many aesthetic concerns people develop as they age.

A facelift is a common procedure performed on people as young as 40s but often for men in their 50s, 60s, 70s and sometimes in their 80s. A facelift will reduce wrinkles, deep lines, folds, fat deposits and droopy skin in the face and neck. The procedure results in a smoother, tighter face and neck.

The facelift for men fixes multiple areas in one procedure. The results are much longer-lasting than results achieved with minimally-invasive procedures such as Botox or dermal filler injections.

A face/necklift is an excellent solution for men who are experiencing the effects of age and want to see a noticeable improvement in their face and neck.

Consultation

In your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Korman, you will get the opportunity to discuss your aesthetic goals and your desired outcome from a facelift. Together, you and Dr. Korman will develop an individualized treatment plan that addresses your desires and unique anatomy.

Dr. Korman will discuss the risks and expected outcomes associated with a facelift. He will then inquire about your general health, past surgeries, current medications, and drug allergies. Dr. Korman will also examine your skin elasticity and its health to ensure it will recover and contour well. He may take photos and measurements to better plan for the procedure. All of this information will help Dr. Korman determine if a facelift is the best solution for you or if alternative options will better achieve your desired results.

At Dr. Korman’s office, we strive to build relationships with our patients to provide a comfortable experience for them. We encourage patients to ask questions and voice any concerns they have. Our goal is to make you feel confident in the choice you have made.

Preparation

Dr. Korman and his helpful staff will inform patients how to best prepare for their facelift procedure during their consultation. Patients will be prescribed medications such as antibiotics and pain relievers that will need to be filled and retrieved before the surgery. The antibiotics may need to be taken before and after the surgery to ensure an optimal healing process. Eating will need to stop at midnight before the procedure to ensure the body responds well to medications used during the procedure.

Patients will also need to stop smoking and taking blood thinning medications at least two weeks before the surgery. This will help blood flow and circulation and promote healthy healing post-procedure.

It is important for patients to coordinate with a family member or friend to pick them up after the surgery and stay with them the first night. This will ensure the patient’s safety as well as provide a more comfortable experience for them.

Facelift Procedure

When the patient arrives for their procedure, the predetermined incision sites will be cleaned and marked by the highly qualified surgical team. Conscious sedation or general anesthesia will then be administered intravenously to provide a sedated and comfortable experience for the patient. Dr. Korman will perform one of two procedures: a minimal incision facelift or a standard incision facelift.

Incision Placement

Dr. Korman is acutely aware that most men wear their hair short, and as such hair cannot be relied upon to cover up incisions. For the minimal incision procedure, Dr. Korman places the incision inside the hair line and then inside the curves of the ear rather than a potentially unsightly scar in a face crease in front of the ear. For the full neck lift, Dr. Korman hides the incisions behind the ear and within the hair line.

Minimal Incision Facelift

This technique is less invasive and targets the area around the jawline, chin, and neck.

A minimal incision facelift, or MACS lift (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension) is the perfect procedure for men who are concerned mainly with the lower area of their face. If you have developed jowls or sagging skin in the lower area of your face, this can be a wonderful solution. This procedure only requires short incisions along the hairline, above the ears and in the natural creases around the ear. With these short incisions, Dr. Korman is able to tighten deep facial tissues in the cheeks and jawline.

After these incisions are made, Dr. Korman will remove excess skin and tissue. He will then remove unnecessary fat and resculpt the face to provide more youthful contours. The incisions will be closed with small sutures. This procedure is performed under either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. If you have a preference, please discuss the options with Dr. Korman in your consultation.

Standard Face/necklift Incision

This procedure is for men who have more jowling and extensive skin and soft tissue droop in the neck.

In a standard facelift incision, Dr. Korman begins this procedure by making an incision behind and in front of the ear and continuing it up the scalp. The incision will be made discretely within the natural folds of the face. At this point, Dr. Korman trims the excess skin and tissue. Fat deposits will be removed and sculpted to enhance the facial features. The skin and tissue will then be tightened and aligned with the natural contours of the face. Tiny sutures will be used to close the incisions and bandages will be applied over them.

The procedures will take two to four hours and will result in a rejuvenated face. The procedure can be combined with surgery on the eyelids (upper and/ lower blepharoplasty)

Recovery

Bandages will be applied to the face for the first 24-hours, but will soon be replaced by a lighter covering. Patients typically experience swelling and bruising during the recovery period. Dr. Korman generally does not use drains. Patients will be informed to keep their head elevated following the procedure. This will promote a healthy healing process.

In about 2-3 weeks, patients should be able to resume normal activities.

Dr. Korman will follow up with you every few days. The patient will have their first one 1-2 days after their surgery. This will allow Dr. Korman to monitor your recovery, remove stitches, clean incision sites and change bandages when necessary. He will also be able to inform you when you can return to activities like exercise and showering.

Everyone’s body heals at different speeds. Dr. Korman will let you know when the above activities will be safe for you to return to.

Results

Facelifts are transformative and produce dramatic results. These results will differ for everyone but the results will be noticeable immediately and in the weeks following as swelling decreases. Final results will be visible three to six months following the procedure. A facelift is a long-lasting solution to aging symptoms, making it one of the most effective anti-aging procedures offered by plastic surgeons today!
