What Is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is the enlargement of breast tissue in men, leading to the appearance of fuller, sometimes feminine-looking breasts. This common condition can affect adolescent boys, adult men, and seniors. While gynecomastia is typically not a health threat, it can significantly impact self-esteem, body image, and comfort in clothing or athletic settings. In rare cases, Dr. Korman may recommend a medical evaluation to rule out underlying causes before proceeding with surgery.

What Is Male Breast Reduction Surgery?

Male breast reduction surgery addresses gynecomastia by removing excess glandular tissue, fat, and loose skin. Generally only a very small incision is needed to accomplish the most important goal: to feel comfortable not wearing a shirt in public or private. This is achieved with a flatter, firmer, more defined chest that restores natural masculine contours.

Dr. Korman typically performs the procedure under general anesthesia, but local anesthesia is sometimes possible. Small, carefully placed incisions are made around the areola to minimize visible scarring. Excess tissue is excised, and VASER liposuction may be used to sculpt and fine-tune the chest for an ideal result. In cases where stretched skin is present, Dr. Korman uses RENUVION, and if necessary can also resize the areola and remove redundant skin to create a tight, lifted appearance. The surgery usually takes approximately two hours, with patients returning home the same day to recover comfortably.
