About NovaThread Lift

The NovaThread Lift is one of the most effective non-surgical treatments to correct loose facial skin. Age and the effects of gravity over time causes the skin to become lax and droop, creating unwanted lines, wrinkles, and creases. These effects can add years to a person’s appearance and negatively affect their confidence. NovaThreads were created to answer an unmet need in aesthetics, which is to provide a visibly lifted result without a surgical procedure. With the NovaThread Lift, patients can receive quick, natural, and beneficial results that shed years off of their appearance.

The procedure requires no cuts or incisions; it simply involves injections using sutures that will be safely absorbed into the skin. NovaThreads are dissolvable PDO sutures that come in a variety of textures and can be used on the face, neck, or anywhere else on the body that requires subtle lifting. Wherever the threads are placed, patients will be able to see immediate results.

How Does NovaThread Lift Work?

When NovaThreads are inserted under the skin, they induce a similar bodily response to that of aesthetic procedures such as skin resurfacing lasers, chemical peels, and microneedling treatments. The sutures will jumpstart the body’s natural healing process and begin creating new collagen to treat the ‘damaged’ tissue. The new collagen will form around the sutures as the body works to break them down. Depending on the patient’s body and the metabolism of their skin, the longevity of the sutures will vary, typically about five to six months before being fully dissolved. For the best results, the treatment can be repeated after four to six weeks for improved results. Patients can think of this process as controlled healing happening right under their skin.

The choice of thread will be determined based on the condition of the skin and the needs of the patient. In some cases, twisted fibers can be placed in areas that could benefit from a mild increase in volume such as the nasolabial folds.

PDO Suture Types

The PDO sutures will remain under the skin for about six months, after which they will then be absorbed into the skin. This form of suture is very safe and has been used for many years and a variety surgical procedures. For the NovaThread Lift, there are different thread textures to provide a variety of results. The different suture textures include:

  • Barbed threads- to help lift up the skin
  • Coiled threads- to help plump up the skin
  • Smooth threads – will stimulate more collagen to be produced

Types of NovaThread Lifts

There are two main NovaThread Lift techniques: NovaMesh and NovaLyft. Both of these techniques achieve lifting results; however, the chosen method will depend on the patient’s current skin quality and desired results.

NovaMesh

The NovaMesh technique consists of creating a sort of ‘mesh net’ under the skin. This is achieved by inserting two sutures vertically and three sutures horizontally. This will create the look of a hashtag (#), which will serve as a base foundation for the new collagen production. The collagen will grow around these areas to maintain a lifted look, and after approximately six months, the sutures will be absorbed, and new collagen will remain.

NovaLyft

The second technique is called the NovaLyft. This method produces more immediate and drastic results than the NovaMesh. The particular PDO sutures that are used for this technique have “barbs” or “cogs,” which provide a strong drip underneath the skin. Sutures are inserted similarly to the NovaMesh except for the fact that they can be in one or two different directions. This allows Dr. Korman to reposition the skin instantly. New collagen that is produced will build around the “barbed” sutures and maintain the skin’s new placement. After about six months, the threads will dissolve and leave only the new collagen.

As stated above, both techniques are very beneficial for creating an aesthetically pleasing lift without the need for surgery. The chosen method for this procedure will be discussed and decided during the consultation with Dr. Korman. He will be to explain in detail which technique will be best for the patient’s needs.

Treatment Areas

NovaThreads can be used to correct drooping skin in a variety of areas. Although this treatment is most commonly used for the lower face, it can be used to correct skin laxity on mostly anywhere on the body. Dr. Korman recommends this treatment to his patients who are looking to subtly lift sagging skin. The most common treatment areas for NovaThread Lifts include:

  • Neck
  • Under eyes
  • Jaw
  • Lips
  • Marionette lines
  • Jowls

NovaThread Lift Vs. FaceLift

Dr. Korman offers his patients with non-surgical and surgical options to correct skin laxity on the face. Depending on the patient’s case, they may be better suited for one procedure over the other. The non-surgical option he offers is the NovaThread Lift procedure which utilizes dissolvable sutures strategically placed under the skin to lift the skin and reverse unwanted signs of aging. This minimally invasive technique is quick and useful to treat smaller areas of the face. It may not be ideal for patients who have a significant amount of sagging skin throughout the face. In such cases, Dr. Korman offers a more in-depth surgical procedure. A facelift removes excess skin and lifts the remaining skin to provide a more firm, youthful appearance.

Neither procedure is better than the other; it simply depends on the patient’s particular case and the extent of treatment that is required to achieve their desired results. Upon evaluation, the doctor will assess the patient and review their options with them to decide on the best procedure for them. Dr. Korman has years of experience performing both procedures and is pleased to be able to help his patient reach their aesthetic goals.

Good Candidates

Good candidates for a NovaThread Lift are men and women who are looking to tighten sagging facial skin and reduce unwanted signs of aging that develop on the brows, cheeks, jowls, and neck region. These patients should be in good health and have realistic expectations, understanding that this procedure will not provide the same in-depth results as a facelift or neck lift. It is essential that the patient does not have any underlying conditions that can negatively affect the procedure results.

Because this is not a surgical procedure that requires general anesthesia and incisions, almost anyone can be a candidate. This procedure is an excellent alternative for those who are looking to avoid surgery altogether and receive treatment for skin laxity in a timely manner. To find out if a patient is a candidate for the NovaThread Lift, please call our office and schedule a consultation with one of our friendly staff members.

Procedure

The NovaThread Lift is performed under local anesthetic which will numb the treatment area to ensure that the patient experiences no discomfort during the injections. The procedure is very quick; patients can receive treatment on their lunch hour and be back to their normal activities immediately. Once the area is numbed, Dr. Korman will insert the threads under the skin strategically using a tiny hollow needle to lift and support the drooping tissue without removing any skin.

The insertion of the suture requires no incisions or cuts to be made to the skin. Once the threads have been placed in the specific pattern, the hollow needle will be removed, and the procedure is complete.

Results and Recovery

After the procedure, patients will be able to notice instant skin tightening and lifting. There is no need for any downtime, so patients will be able to return to their daily routines right after the treatment is complete. There may be mild swelling and bruising for the first few days; however, this will dissipate on its own. The sutures will dissolve after about four to six months and the new collagen will be all that remains. The skin will heal itself naturally which will help to achieve a more youthful, lifted appearance. Any discomfort can be reduced by taking Tylenol or Advil.

The results will be long-lasting because of the new collagen production in the skin. This treatment does not prevent the natural effect of aging from continuing; however, recurrent treatment can help to combat any further skin degeneration.

Cost

The cost of the NovaThread Lift procedure is highly individualistic. The price is determined based on the patient’s exact needs and the extent of treatment they require. If additional procedures are performed with the non-surgical lift, this will also affect the cost. A consultation is necessary to allow Dr. Korman to evaluate the patient and provide an accurate NovaThread Lift quote. To obtain a custom quote, we encourage patients to contact their nearest office and request a consultation.
