Women devote so much of themselves to raising their kids that it can take a toll on their physical appearance. This can include fine lines and wrinkles from stress, sagging breasts from pregnancy and nursing, loose abdominal skin from pregnancy, and unwanted fat deposits that rest on the stomach, legs, arms, and buttocks. Dr. Korman has produced outstanding results for countless mothers in Mountain View, Carmel, and San Jose with his mommy makeover procedures.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

Being a mother can take a toll on the figure. They may develop stubborn fat deposits, weakened abdominal muscles, or breast sagging or volume loss – and a mommy makeover is specifically designed to tackle such aesthetics concerns.

A mommy makeover uses a combination of procedures to rejuvenate the whole body, or the patient’s target areas, to restore the youthful appearance that the patient had pre-pregnancy and motherhood.

The exact process of this procedure varies depending on the patient’s exact wishes; however, the following are the surgeries commonly chosen to restore the body to its pre-motherhood form:

  • Facelift to smooth away fine lines and wrinkles
  • Breast Lift to restore the breasts to their original position
  • Breast Reduction or Augmentation to enlarge or reduce the chest size
  • Tummy Tuck to tighten and tone the stomach
  • Liposuction to remove stubborn, unwanted fat on the legs, arms, buttocks, or abdomen

If you are unsure which procedures would benefit you the most, contact Dr. Korman practice to discuss your mommy makeover and address any procedural questions.

Who Should Get a Mommy Makeover?

Mothers’ bodies go through a lot of stress from pregnancy, giving birth, and raising children. When someone has a 1 year old that needs changing and a 3 year old having a temper tantrum, looks are usually the last thing on their mind. But mothers deserve pampering too; a mommy makeover is perfect for women who experience an array of cosmetic disturbances due to their pregnancies and breastfeeding, and wish to reclaim their youthful appearance.

Ideal candidates should not be expecting any more children and are able to take some time off to rest and recover. Moms who wish to have more children should wait until they’ve had their last child to undergo a mommy makeover. Mothers should be in good health without any conditions that would prevent optimum healing.

If you desire to restore your youthful figure and feel confident in your skin again, please request a consultation online today to discuss your mommy makeover options with Dr. Korman and his helpful staff.

Types of Procedures

Depending on patient’s specific needs and problem areas, there are a variety of procedures that Dr. Korman offers in a mommy makeover package. Moms are able to choose any amount of procedures they wish and Dr. Korman deems appropriate for reaching their cosmetic goals. The following are an explanation of each option.

Short Incision Facelift

The face is the first thing people see and remember about someone. When volume is lost and collagen diminishes, the skin on the face begins to sag. Dr. Korman can perform a facelift to remove lax facial skin, reposition muscles and tissue, and rebuild confidence. The procedure will begin with local anesthesia. Depending on the type of facelift a patient is receiving, incisions will be made either along the hairline, ears, and behind the jaw, or a shortened version of this with incisions made only around the ears. The excess skin will be trimmed, and the skin will be re-draped and sutured. Dr. Korman pays careful attention to make sure all incisions are made discreetly so any scarring will be disguised within the hairline and frame of the face.

Breast Lift

Breastfeeding and pregnancy can cause the breasts to sag and droop. Receiving a breast lift can restore perkiness, improve proportions, and create a better alignment for each patient’s unique figure. The breast lift can reshape tissue, raise or resize the areola, tighten skin laxity, and reinstate youthfulness.

This procedure may also be combined with a breast augmentation to add volume and fullness in addition to the lift. The procedure takes about 2 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Depending on the breast lift method chosen after thorough discussion and evaluation during the consultation, Dr. Korman will create the appropriate incisions, remove excess tissue and loose skin, and reshape the breasts.

Breast Reduction

If a patient’s large breasts are causing physical ailments like backaches and shoulder problems, or if breasts have enlarged throughout childbearing and never returned to their previous size, a breast reduction might be an optimal choice. A breast reduction is generally performed by an incision around the areolas, and from the areolas down to the natural crease of the breast. Dr. Korman will then remove excess fat and tissue and reshape the breasts to their smaller, more proportionate size by removing surplus skin and repositioning the areola. In some cases, liposuction is enough to reach the desired result.

Breast Augmentation

If a mother has experienced a loss of volume and fullness in her breasts due to motherhood, a breast augmentation can revamp shape and enhance figure. This procedure can be combined with a breast lift for a full, lifted bust. During the consultation, patients will be able to select a customized implant that best suits their desires. Options include implant type, implant shape, and implant size.

Others may want to go a more natural route by undergoing a fat transfer breast augmentation. This is performed by removing excess adipose tissue from another area of the body and depositing the fat into the breasts. Dr. Korman will help each patient decide the best option for their individual goals.

Tummy Tuck

The stomach can be one of the biggest trouble areas for mothers. A stretched abdomen from pregnancy can leave the skin sagging and muscles separated, and trying to diet and exercise to regain your old pre-baby figure can only achieve so much. A tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, sutures segregated muscles in the abdomen and removes excess skin and tissue.

The procedure is performed with an incision made below the belt line to suture the abdominal muscles and excise lax skin to create a lean and defined effect.

Liposuction

Even though mothers may be running around chasing a 2 year old, they may still experience stubborn fat in various areas of the body that just seem to never go away. Common areas for liposuction are the thighs, buttocks, hips, stomach, and arms. This procedure will take 1 – 2 hours and can be performed through a variety of methods. The traditional liposuction procedure is performed through a small incision. An ultra thin tube called a cannula is inserted into the incision to suction fat and excess tissue. SmartLipo can also be performed to sculpt troublesome areas. This revolutionary technology melts and liquefies fat deposits before suctioning for more ease and added patient comfort.

What to Expect Following a Mommy Makeover

The recovery process for a mommy makeover is dependent on the type and amount of surgeries chosen to revamp the body and bring back the tight, contoured pre-baby shape.

For breast procedures, the bust is wrapped in dressings and a compression garment to help the breasts form to their new contour and reduce swelling. Tummy tuck requires dressing and a compression garment around the abdomen as well as any additional areas treated with liposuction.

A facelift requires dressings around the facial incisions and cold compresses to aid in the reduction of swelling. Drains may be needed for certain procedures to catch excess fluids. Most moms are able to return to work and normal daily activities in 7 – 10 days, with strenuous physical activity being resumed in 4 – 6 weeks. Additional personalized recovery instructions will be provided during the consultation.
