Chin liposuction is a minimally-invasive surgery that targets localized fat deposits underneath the chin and along the jawline. The procedure is performed using a slim cannula, tumescent fluid, and a few strategically-placed, small incisions.

How to Prepare for Chin Lipo
You will receive personalized instructions to help you prepare for Chin Liposuction. Preparing for liposuction sets patients up for a smoother procedure and better results. Prior to Chin Liposuction, patients generally should:
- Discontinue taking blood-thinning medications and supplements, including aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, turmeric, and Ginkgo biloba.
- Stop smoking several weeks prior to the procedure date.
- Ask a friend or family member to drive them home from the surgery.
How is Chin Liposuction Done?
Chin liposuction is performed with local anesthesia on an out-patient basis. Patients have the option of receiving chin liposuction under general anesthesia, but this will also raise procedure pricing and extend patient recovery times.

Patients have the option of optimizing their chin liposuction with power-assisted liposuction, SmartLipo, or VASER Liposuction technologies.
In order to perform liposuction, Dr. Korman will first introduce tumescent fluid into the treatment site. Tumescent fluid is a customizable solution of saline, epinephrine, and lidocaine. Tumescent fluid causes the fat cells to swell up, making them easier to break down and extract. The fluid additionally constricts blood vessels to reduce post-procedure bruising and swelling. Once the tumescent fluid has taken effect, Dr. Korman will eliminate the fat and contour the chin and jawline with the chosen liposuction method. Procedure incisions are very small and well-hidden under the jaw and/or behind the ears.
Power-Assisted Liposuction
Power-Assisted Liposuction is a traditional liposuction method that extracts fat from the body using a vibrating cannula. Power-assisted liposuction is best used to address especially tough, stubborn pockets of fat. This method enables surgeons to slim and shape the body, but does not achieve the same degree of detail or skin tightening that is achieved with VASER or SmartLipo.
SmartLipo
SmartLipo melts fat with targeted laser energy, making fat tissue easier to gently extract from the chin and upper neck. Dr. Korman will use a slim SmartLipo cannula containing a fine laser fiber to sculpt patients’ jawline into their preferred smooth, tight contour. The heat from SmartLipo will constrict the surrounding tissues, resulting in reduced post-procedure bleeding and tighter, younger-looking results.
VASER Liposuction
VASER liposuction emulsifies fat with ultrasound waves. Ultrasound waves break down fat cells, but leave the surrounding tissues unharmed. Once the fat is broken down, the cells are gently suctioned out from the body. The ultrasound energy has the added benefit of promoting skin tightening. VASER enables surgeons to customize the contours of the treated area for impressively tight, smooth results.
Once the desired jawline contours have been achieved, Dr. Korman will close the incisions with fine sutures. Patients will receive a postoperative massage following liposuction. This massage has been shown to optimize the slim, smooth results of the procedure.
