For many males, the hardest area to achieve definition is the abdomen. After countless hours exercising and dieting, some men are still unable to achieve the chiseled abs they desire.
Patients who are struggling to define their abdominal muscles now have a way to eliminate stubborn stomach fat and achieve their ideal, athletic abdominal shape with Ab Etching. Ab etching is a procedure performed by Dr. Korman that removes the fat covering the abdominal muscles to reveal a contoured stomach.
Mountain View and San Jose men are thrilled with the definition of their abdomen, following their ab etching procedure. To enjoy similar results, schedule a consultation with Dr. Korman today.
What is Ab Etching?
As we age, it is not uncommon for difficult-to-lose fat stores to take hold almost anywhere on our bodies.
The abdomen is one of the most common areas for this stubborn, seemingly permanent concentration of fat cells. Even someone who is otherwise strong and healthy can struggle with defining their abs! Ab etching gives patients the toned, six-pack abdominal appearance that they have been unable to achieve, due to this seemingly un-losable fat.
To achieve your chiseled abdomen, Dr. Korman will use tumescent with laser and ultrasonic liposuction (See Smart Lipo or Vaser Liposuction Procedure). This will remove the fat covering the abdomen with minimal invasion, allowing for less scarring, quick healing and better skin contraction to allow for better muscle definition.

Benefits of Ab Etching
Our male patients who receive ab etching are happy with the many benefits of their procedure, including their:
- Quick, comfortable recovery
- Long lasting-results. Due to the fact that ab etching permanently eliminates targeted areas of fat from the abdomen, patients who maintain their weight with diet and exercise will enjoy a long-term improvement in their abdominal contour.
- Minimal to no scarring
- Tighter abdominal skin
- Accentuated and improved athletic physique
- Increased confidence in their appearance
A good candidate for male ab etching has a small amount of abdominal fat which the body refuses to burn off, regardless of regular diet and exercise.
Candidates should be non-smokers, have less than 20% body fat, and have a moderate amount of abdominal strength. Patients who do smoke will be asked to discontinue smoking for at least three weeks before and after their procedure. It is also important that candidates disclose if they have any pre-existing conditions which could interfere with their body’ ability to heal after their ab etching.
Ideal candidates have an open mindset toward the outcomes of a cosmetic procedure. Candidates will enjoy their longest-lasting results if they are willing to practice and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.
Ab etching is not intended to be used as a weight loss solution. It is a body contouring procedure that is designed to be used by someone who is close to their goal weight, but unable to achieve the finishing touches they want for their physique due to their exercise-resistant fat. It is important to recognize that to have and maintain defined abs, 80% is diet and 20% is abdominal exercises.
Before and After Photos
Every candidate for male ab etching should schedule an individual consultation with Dr. Korman so that he can answer any questions you may have, as well as get a better understanding of your goals for your abdominal appearance. In order to get a comprehensive view of your health and determine your candidacy for ab etching, Dr. Korman will go over your medical history, medication use, and lifestyle habits overall.
Once Dr. Korman has examined your abdomen and determined what the needs of your case will be, he will work with you to create a treatment plan to achieve your ideal results. He will discuss patients’ procedural options with them, including whether he will perform their ab etching with SmartLipo, VASER Liposuction, or both.
SmartLipo is a laser-assisted liposuction procedure which melts fat and cauterizes any bleeding, reducing post-procedure bruising. VASER Liposuction breaks down targeted fat with controlled ultrasound energy, making it easier to gently remove from the body. Both methods allow Korman to target and eliminate patient’s fat to achieve a flattering, athletic contour, without harming the surrounding tissues. VASER, as well as SmartLipo, promotes skin tightening in the treatment area. The extent of liposuction that will be performed during an ab etching will vary for each patient, in order to achieve the toned, healthy appearance that’s right for their body and their distribution of fat.
Dr. Korman wants every patient to feel confident in their decision to undergo ab etching, or any other cosmetic procedure. To have your questions about ab etching or any other body contouring procedure answered, we invite you to call one of Dr. Korman’s conveniently-located offices today.
Your Ab Etching Procedure
While most patients can comfortably receive ab etching under twilight sedation, patients also have the option of general anesthesia. The procedure is usually completed in approximately one hour.
Once Dr. Korman has outlined the patient’s desired abdominal appearance, several small incisions will be made to allow him ideal access to the treatment area with a miniscule cannula. He will insert tumescent fluid into the area, which will numb the site, shrink the blood vessels, and assist with the gentle removal of patient’s fat. Based on your discussed preference, Dr. Korman will use laser-assisted SmartLipo, ultrasound-led VASER liposuction, or a combination of the two to both eliminate and contour the abdominal tissue strategically. The fat will be thinned and rearranged as necessary to accentuate both the rectus abdominis muscles and the line that runs vertically down the abdomen.
Patients will be monitored post-procedure before they are approved to go home following their ab etching procedure.
Dr. Korman has both the experience and artistic eye necessary to custom-tailor your abs, and every procedure he performs, to meet the unique needs of his patient. In order to achieve their ideal athletic appearance safely and effectively, some patients decide to combine ab etching with other body contouring procedures. Some patients may need to have fat removed from their abdomen, flanks, and surrounding areas with SmartLipo and/or VASER liposuction in order to see their ideal results from their ab etching.
Dr. Korman will make sure every patient understands and approves every step of their ab etching procedure.
What to Expect after an Ab Etching Procedure?
Patients should not drive themselves home after their ab etching procedure. Ask a friend or family member to drive you, as well as to stay with you during the 24 hours after your procedure to help you with tasks around the house.
Rest during the first few days is important. Bruising and swelling will occur, but these symptoms will diminish greatly within the first week of recovery. For the first few weeks following the procedure, a compression garment should be worn to ease any discomfort and reduce swelling.
Dr. Korman will discuss other approved methods of relieving discomfort with you. Patients should avoid use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications after their ab etching, as this can lead to more pronounced bruising. Lifting of anything above 10 pounds should be avoided to ensure a fast recovery. Patients will be able to return to their regular activity within 2 weeks and to exercising within three to six weeks. To review the recovery process and address any questions, contact Dr. Korman at his Mountain View practice.
Any incisions are made in an easy-to-conceal area, like the belly button or in the indentation of a muscle. Scarring is rare, but Dr. Korman’s well-placed incisions increase the chance that any scarring will not be detectable.
As the swelling in the treatment area diminishes, you will notice that your abdomen is slimmer overall and your abdominal muscles are clearly defined. Thanks to the skin-tightening effects of SmartLipo, as well as of VASER, patients who may have had a small degree of skin laxity due to their fat deposits will see instead that their skin is tighter and laying in an attractive, natural-looking fit over their now-toned abdominal muscles. As your body accepts the changes achieved by your liposculpture, your results will continue to improve. Final results of the ab etching procedure are apparent within six months.
Ab etching will eliminate and sculpt the fat that is concealing your toned abdomen. This procedure consistently delivers toned, flattering six-pack abs to our patients: your body will finally reflect the time that you have been putting in at the gym!
